The Thebans: Oedipus at Kolonos
Author(s):
Timberlake Wertenbaker
Antigone, in tatters, leads her blinded father, disguised as a beggar and seeking his resting place, into a grove near Kolonos. Meanwhile the two sons of Oedipus fight for the right to the throne of Thebes. The Oracle reveals that victory will go to the city that will contain the grave of Oedipus. The Times critic writes, "There are no villains...only blind people who lost their way; and [this] thrilling magisterial production sheds a brilliant light on their darkness."
